Profile of the Principal Officers
ASCE has assembled a team of well-trained professional staff with different educational background to meet the challenges of Commodity Exchange operations. Our management team comprises the following:
Yusuf Abdurrahim,B.Sc, M.Sc, FCCA, FCA, FCMA - MD/CEO
Mr. Abdurrahim was appointed pioneer Managing Director/CEO of the Abuja Stock Exchange (ASE) in 1998 and remained the MD/CEO of the Exchange after it was converted to Abuja Securities & Commodity Exchange in 2001.
Mr. Abdurrahim holds a Master of Science degree in Business Systems Analysis and Design (London, 1987) and the Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from Bayero University Kano in 1980. He is a fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of Nigeria.
Before joining the Exchange, he had worked in United African Company of Nigeria Limited (UAC), Bank of the North, National trucks Manufacturers, Euro Computer services (Consultancy) and NICON Insurance Corporation where he acquired a broadly based experience in manufacturing, finance, insurance and information technology management. He had attended various courses in these fields overseas and also on Securities and Commodity Exchange operations in Asia and the Far East.
Until his appointment as the Managing Director/CEO ASE, Mr. Y. Abdurrahim was Executive Director, Finance & Administration at NICON Insurance Corporation.
Z. M. Baba-Ari,
B.A, M.A. - Group Head (Management Services)
Mrs. Zaheera Baba-Ari graduated from the University of Maiduguri with B. A. (Hons) degree in English in 1981 and M.A Degree in Language and Communication Arts from the University of Ibadan in 1983. She also has a certificate in the Management of Editorial Processes and Production Editing Skills in 1989 from the Unwin Foundation, Book House Training Centre, London.
She has worked variously as an English Language Editor with University Press Plc, Ibadan, a journalist and books editor with Newswatch Communications, Lagos, Corporate Affairs Manager, EKO-Corp Plc and the Protocol Officer of the South African High Commission, Abuja, before joining the Exchange in 1999 as the Head of Human Resources Management and Corporate Services.
Lawal Benson .O.,
B.Sc, M.Sc. - Group Head (Operations)
Mr. Lawal Benson O. graduated from the University of Calabar in 1983 with a B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Economics. He also holds an M.Sc Economics (with specialization in Monetary Economics) obtained from the University of Ibadan in 1990.
Mr. Lawal started his working career as a Graduate Assistant Lecturer in Economics at the Bendel State University (now Edo State University), Ekpoma in 1983 and later joined Tai Solarin College of Education (now Tai Solarin University of Education), Ijebu Ode, as a Lecturer in 1987 and rose to the position of a Senior Lecturer in Economics and Acting Head of Department before leaving the Institution in December 1993.
He joined Nigeria Industrial Development Bank Limited (NIDB) now Bank of Industry where he rose to the position of Principal Investment Executive before leaving for the Exchange in 1999. Mr. Lawal has attended a wide range of courses both locally and abroad on international finance and payments, securities and commodity trading.
Emmanuel U. Egwu
B.Sc., MBA,ACA.
Head (Accounts and Finance)
Mr. Emmanuel .U. Egwu is in charge of Accounts and Finance. He graduated from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus with B.Sc (Hons.) degree in Finance in 1988. He also obtained MBA (Banking and Finance), from the same University in 2002. He is an associate of The Institute of chartered Accountants of Nigeria. Since graduation, he has attended a wide range of Management Courses in Investment analysis and appraisal. Before joining the Exchange in 1999, he was Principal Investment Analyst in the Investment Department of NICON Insurance Corporation.
Chris Echikwu
B. A, MPA, Dip. (Mass Comm) - Head (Membership & Client Relationship)
Mr. Christopher Echikwu is in charge of the Membership & Client relationship Department. He had his early education in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Otukpo in Benue State. He holds a Bachelors Degree in English and Literature Studies obtained from the University of Calabar in 1983 and a Diploma in Mass Communication obtained from the University of Jos in 1995. He also holds a Masters degree in Public dministration from Benue State University.
Mr. Echikwu worked with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as District Correspondent in Otukpo and Gboko, Benue State, and as reporter in Yola. He joined Benue Cement Company Plc as a Press Officer in the Public Relations Department and rose to the position of Acting Head of Department before joining the Exchange in 1999.
Davou Ezekiel
B.SC, MBA - Head (Risk Management & Surveillance)
Mr. Ezekiel Davou graduated in 1986 from the University of Jos with a B.Sc degree in Management Studies(Accounting). He obtained his MBA (Finance) in 1992 from the same University. He had at various times worked with Delta Steel Company Limited, Aladja, National Population Commission and Allied Bank of Nigeria Plc. He was with the Leasing Company of Nigeria Limited as the Head of the Company's Port Harcourt Branch before joining the Exchange in 2000.
Muhammad Jabbo
HND, PGD Computer Science - Head (IT/Communications)
Mr. Muhammad Jabbo graduated with an HND in Computer Science at the Kaduna Polytechnic in 2002. He also has a PGD (Computer Science) obtained from the Federal University of Technology Minna. He had worked at Department of National Civic Registration Bauchi State Office, National Universities Commission Abuja and Nigerian Mobile Telecommunications Limited Abuja as the Head Postpaid Billing before joining the Exchange in 2007.
He is a Member of Computer Professional of Nigeria who is well grounded in System Administration, Hardware Maintenance and Database Administration.
