General News >>

Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority, Alhaji Muhammad Umar Kura recently disclosed to newsmen in Kano that farmers in the state have started experiencing bumper harvests of farm produce because the rains have been very adequate and the patterns have been very good this rainy season, contrary to predictions of National Meteorological Agency early this year that the northern part of the country would experience drought.

??

He also attributed the bumper harvests to timely distribution of inputs to farmers. Alhaji Umar said that his agency provided about one thousand metric tonnes of assorted improved seeds and twenty thousand metric tonnes of fertilizer, 21,000 liters of assorted chemicals to farmers.

??

Alhaji Umar said that another reason why the farmers are raking in good harvests from their farms this current cropping season was sequel to well organised and extensive agricultural extension network in the state. He posited that Kano State has 840 well trained agricultural extension workers that are spread over the entire state, averaging 10 in each local government to transmit innovations and new skills to farmers. ?????We???re grateful to Allah that this year has been good despite the problem of flood in some localities along the Chalawa-Kano River, but we are impressed???, Alhaji Umar said.
