Nigeria's October-March 2009/2010 cocoa main crop exports rose by 31 percent from 116,778 tonnes in 2008/2009 main crop to 152,610 tonnes.

On a monthly basis, bean shipments from the worlds number 4 cocoa growers' soared 51 per cent year-on-year to 18,276 tonnes in March from 12,106 tonnes in the same month of the 2008/2009 season, the Federal Produce Inspection service (FPIS) data showed.

Nigerian cocoa exports have consistently risen since the start of the 2009/2010 season in October due to the good weather conditions last year and the maturity of new plantation with high-yielding trees planted few years ago as a direct result of Cocoa Rebirth Initiative of the previous government.

Nigeria'main crop usually comes in at around 220,000 to 240,000 tonnes when the weather was favourable and chemicals readily available.
